Born and raised in Orlando, Florida. For thirty years, I have volunteered and raised funds for a charity helping children and their families in Kissimmee, FL. I also volunteered taking pet portraits at an animal shelter in Orange County. Before becoming an attorney, I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, scuba-dived at the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, and went cage-diving with Great White Sharks in South Africa. I strive to live my life —personally and professionally— with compassion, courage, and dedication.
Early Legal Career
While in law school, I practiced as a Student Attorney in the Criminal Clinic. During the summer breaks, I completed legal internships with a prominent criminal defense attorney in Orlando, Florida. After law school , I worked for the Office of the Public Defender in Orange and Osceola Counties as an attorney from 2013 to 2017. While a public defender, I represented clients in felony and misdemeanor cases as well as assignments with caseloads dedicated to Violations of Probation, Juvenile Delinquency, Domestic Violence, and Baker Acts.
Continuing Education and Beyond
In 2017, I moved to Virginia near Washington, DC to study White Collar/Financial Crimes Investigations at Georgetown Law. After earning my LL.M in Securities and Financial Regulation, I worked for a large international law firm as an Associate. While I worked primarily in Complex Commercial Litigation, I also represented clients on Federal "White Collar" matters, including Money Laundering, Mail Fraud, and Wire Fraud. Additionally, I worked on Pro Bono matters and co-authored an amicus brief to the Supreme Court of the United States in support of a Florida man facing the death penalty.
Returning Home
In 2023, I returned home to Central Florida to continue representation of people charged with State and Federal criminal offenses. In late 2024, I opened Katie Horton Law, PLLC.
